By Belize Live News Staff: The community of Red Bank in southern Belize is in shock following the brutal murder of 24-year-old Wilmer Che, a mentally challenged man who was well-known around the village. Police discovered Che’s body on Wednesday afternoon near a dumpsite in Red Bank, where he was found lying face-up with fatal injuries, including a throat wound.
Che’s sister, Irma Che, spoke of her disbelief and heartbreak, recalling the moment police informed her of her brother’s death. “I asked what happened, and they told me my brother was killed,” she shared, describing the news as a devastating shock. Irma, who lives in San Roman, explained that Wilmer often roamed the village due to his condition but was peaceful and well-liked.
Despite his family’s efforts to care for him, including encouraging him to sleep at home, Wilmer would sometimes rest by the riverside or creek. Irma expressed confusion over why anyone would harm her brother, who she described as respectful and kind to others. “He doesn’t trouble anyone,” she said. “I can’t believe anyone would want to hurt him.”
As of now, police have not detained anyone in connection with this crime, leaving the family seeking justice and answers for a life taken too soon.
