Major drug bust in Belize City linked to gang figure, weapons discovered separately

By Belize Live News Staff: Belize City police executed a major marijuana bust early yesterday morning, targeting the residence of a well-known gang figure associated with the PIV gang. Acting on intelligence, officers raided the property and discovered 1.9 kilograms (approximately 4.2 pounds) of marijuana. However, the primary suspect was not present at the scene, prompting police to issue a warrant for his arrest. Another individual found on the property was detained and is expected to face charges.

Later that evening, the Special Patrol Unit (SPU) discovered an assortment of firearms in an abandoned lot within the PIV area. This parallel find has raised questions, with police investigating whether the gang figure may have provided information about the location of the weapons in exchange for leniency on the drug charges. The guns, discovered mere hours after the drug seizure, suggest possible dealings to avoid further criminal repercussions.

Police continue to investigate both incidents, examining potential links between the drugs, the gang activity, and the sudden appearance of weapons. Authorties are also evaluating the effectiveness of their intelligence-gathering efforts as they work to clamp down on gang-related crime across Belize City.
