By Belize Live News Staff: Opposition Leader Hon. Dr. Moses Shyne Barrow criticized the Briceno administration for its handling of Belize’s energy crisis during his State of the Nation address. Barrow accused the government of failing to invest in renewable energy, which has led to widespread blackouts and energy dependency on Mexico.
“The Briceno administration has had four years to address our energy needs, and they have failed. Instead of making Belize energy self-sufficient, we have seen more blackouts and dependency on foreign energy sources,” Barrow said.
Barrow also criticized the government’s decision to seek assistance from Mexico’s outgoing president, describing it as a “band-aid solution” that has failed to deliver the promised results.
In contrast, Barrow vowed that a UDP government would prioritize investment in renewable energy to ensure energy security and reduce Belize’s dependence on external suppliers.
