By Belize Live News Staff: The Belize National Teachers’ Union (BNTU) has officially issued a 21-day notice of industrial action to the Ministry of Education, citing the government’s failure to address its request for a salary adjustment amid mounting economic pressures.
In a letter addressed to Minister of Education Oscar Requeña and top officials in the ministry, BNTU President Nadia Caliz expressed the union’s frustration with what she described as the government’s unwillingness to offer relief from the rising cost of living.
“Our union representatives stand ready to continue the work to bring an amicable solution to what we now refer to as an impasse,” the letter stated. The BNTU emphasized that any continued delay could trigger nationwide strike action, further disrupting Belize’s education system.
