By Belize Live News Staff: In a major show of unity and resolve, over 2,500 members of the Belize National Teachers’ Union (BNTU) have voted in favor of escalating industrial action, confirming three phases of response to ongoing concerns affecting educators nationwide.
The voting results, as shared by BNTU National President Nadia Caliz, outline a three-phase approach:
Phase 1: Demonstration
Phase 2: Two-Day National Shutdown
Phase 3: Full Strike
This decision comes after a national vote where teachers were urged to take a stand for their rights, dignity, and professional advancement. The leadership praised members for their active participation, calling it a “powerful display of unity, participation, and commitment to democratic principles.”
The BNTU says it remains committed to advocating for teachers and students, emphasizing that together, they are building a stronger union and a better Belize.
More updates are expected as the phases unfold.
