By Belize Live News Staff: An 18-year-old taxi driver from the Toledo District is facing serious charges after a minor reported being raped on Caye Caulker over the weekend.
According to police reports, the incident began unfolding around 5:00 PM on Sunday, April 6th. A minor female from the village reported that she was socializing with a male acquaintance, later identified as Salvador Choc, 18, at Bella’s Backpackers on Crocodile Street.
The young woman told police that Choc gave her a drink, after which she began feeling dizzy. She alleges that he then took her to the beach area in front of the Tree Top Hotel on Playa Asuncion, where the sexual assault occurred against her will.
The minor, accompanied by her mother, bravely reported the incident to the Caye Caulker Police Station around 10:00 PM that same evening. Police immediately launched an investigation, recording a statement from the victim in her mother’s presence and processing the alleged crime scene.
A subsequent medical examination certified that the minor had been carnally known and suffered injuries consistent with sexual assault.
Following the investigation, police obtained an arrest warrant for Salvador Choc (DOB: June 10, 2006), a Belizean taxi driver residing in Silver Creek Village, Toledo District. He was formally arrested and charged with the crime of “Rape of a Child.”Choc was reportedly cautioned and informed of his rights, at which point he requested a phone call to contact a relative. He remains in police custody pending further legal proceedings.
