By Belize Live News Staff: A routine patrol turned into a humanitarian rescue mission for the Belize Coast Guard on Monday after they discovered a man floating alone roughly 17 miles south of Belize City. The man was found near Blue Field Range on what appeared to be a makeshift raft and showed no signs of knowing where he was—or who he is.
The Coast Guard reported that the man could not communicate an address or name and had no identification on him. He was evaluated by their medical team and quickly transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital in Belize City for care and observation.
Photos released show the man wearing a long-sleeved shirt and cap, with minimal supplies. His condition at the time of rescue has not been detailed, but officials say he appeared physically stable enough for transport.
It remains a mystery how long he had been at sea or what led to his isolation. Authorities are hoping a friend, family member, or anyone with knowledge will come forward soon.
Until then, the man remains in medical care as investigators try to piece together his story.
