By Belize Live News Staff: A Western Dairies delivery truck was the target of an armed robbery on Monday, leaving two workers shaken and four men under arrest.
The robbery occurred in the afternoon as the truck made its way along Burrell Boom and Hattieville Road. The suspects created a distraction by making a small purchase before turning on the driver and his assistant with guns drawn. They were forced to comply as one of the attackers entered the truck and stole $4,737 in mixed currency, as well as an iPhone.
The suspects quickly escaped in a waiting white vehicle. However, due to a rapid police response, they were intercepted and apprehended at Mile 4 on the George Price Highway. Police, who were already familiar with the men, took them into custody and successfully recovered the stolen cash.
Despite the arrests, the case became more complex when police found that one of the victims had been communicating with a suspect. Authorities are now investigating whether the driver was involved in the heist. If confirmed, this would suggest an inside job rather than a random act of crime.
The four suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue.
