By Belize Live News Staff: The body of 42-year-old Herbin Bans was discovered in a pond in Lord’s Bank, raising questions about the events leading up to his death. Reports indicate that Bans had been out drinking at Fire Nightclub in Ladyville after returning from Punta Gorda Town on February 28. At around 2:30 a.m. on March 1, he was dropped off at home, but he never made it inside. By Sunday morning, his body was found submerged in water.
Police say that Bans allegedly attempted to steal a motorcycle early Saturday morning, but when the owner noticed him, he fled towards a nearby pond. Officers were called to the scene, but Bans continued to move through the pond area before disappearing. He was later reported missing, and by the next day, his body was found.
Investigators are considering whether alcohol played a role in the incident, as police confirmed that he had been drinking at the nightclub before the alleged theft attempt. However, they say his body showed no signs of injuries, and they are still gathering information to determine exactly what happened.
While authorities have not identified any evidence of foul play, the circumstances of Bans’ death remain unclear. Police are continuing their investigation and encourage anyone with knowledge of the incident to come forward.
