"Sorry Mommy, Sorry": Man apologizes after alleged child luring attempt

By Belize Live News Staff: A 23-year-old construction worker is in police custody following an alleged attempt to lure an 8-year-old girl away from a local store in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye. The incident, which occurred at La Dispensa del Hogar, sparked quick action from concerned bystanders who apprehended the suspect until police arrived.

According to police reports, the young girl was sent to the store by her mother to purchase baking soda. While there, she alleges that a man, approached her, kissed her face and hand, played with her hair, and attempted to persuade her to leave with him.

Distressed by the encounter, the child returned home and immediately recounted the incident to her 47-year-old mother. The mother promptly took her daughter back to the store, where the girl identified the man involved.

Upon being confronted by the mother, he reportedly apologized, saying, “Sorry mommy, sorry,” before attempting to flee the scene. However, vigilant bystanders intervened, restraining him until San Pedro police officers arrived and took him into custody.

He is now detained while police conduct further investigations into the alleged incident. Authorities have not yet disclosed the specific charges that will be filed, but the investigation remains active.
