By Belize Live News Staff: The bodies of five men were discovered dumped in Chetumal, bound and executed in what authorities suspect was a cartel-related killing. Among them, Belizean police believe two were from Corozal and had known connections to Mexican criminal groups.
The victims were found near a building, with two of them wrapped in plastic and their faces taped. Consistent with cartel executions, a cardboard sign was placed on two bodies, with a message in Spanish that warned against protection rackets and interference in criminal enterprises.
Belizean authorities are investigating whether the two Belizean victims were involved in the recent murder of Raheem Usher, whose body was discovered on Wednesday in Orange Walk. However, based on the message left at the Chetumal crime scene, investigators believe the motive for this latest killing is unrelated to Usher’s death.
While authorities in Mexico and Belize work to confirm the identities of the victims, concerns are growing over the reach of cartel violence and its potential impact on Belizean nationals involved in organized crime. The situation remains fluid as law enforcement continues to piece together the details behind this brutal execution.
