High Court dismisses Enriquez’s case, appeal planned

By Belize Live News Staff: After the Belize High Court dismissed his application to halt the general election, Jerry Enriquez announced plans to appeal the decision, reaffirming his commitment to advocating for electoral reform. Justice Tawanda Hondora ruled that Enriquez and his fellow claimants did not provide sufficient grounds to justify stopping the election, scheduled for March 12th.

Enriquez expressed disappointment but not surprise at the ruling, stating that the legal battle is far from over. “We must continue to seek fairness in our democracy,” he said. Despite the setback, Enriquez called on Belizeans to support the ongoing legal challenge, stressing the need to address electoral disparities before future elections.

With submissions on legal costs due next week, the government may seek to recover expenses from the claimants. Enriquez and his legal team, led by Senior Counsel Anand Ramlogan, are now preparing their appeal, aiming to bring the case before the Caribbean Court of Justice if necessary.\
