By Belize Live News Staff: Authorities are investigating a reported sexual assault that occurred late Sunday night, February 16th. A 24-year-old woman has alleged she was raped by her cousin after accepting a ride home from an establishment where they were socializing.
According to police reports, the woman stated that she was with her cousin at an undisclosed location when he offered to drive her home sometime between 11:30 PM and midnight. She accepted the offer, but instead of heading towards her residence, he allegedly drove to a secluded area. It was there, she claims, that he sexually assaulted her against her will.
The woman immediately reported the incident to the police, prompting an ongoing investigation. Authorities are currently gathering evidence and interviewing potential witnesses to ascertain the facts of the case. While the investigation is in its early stages, officials are urging anyone with information related to the incident to come forward and assist with their inquiries.
The name of the suspect has not been released pending further investigation. Police have confirmed that the victim and the accused are related as cousins.
