By Belize Live News Staff: Belize and Quintana Roo are strengthening trade and investment cooperation following a high-level meeting between Minister of State for Foreign Trade, Dr. Osmond Martinez, and a delegation led by Paul Carillo de Cáceres, Secretary of Economic Development of Quintana Roo.
The discussions focused on expanding commercial partnerships, improving logistics, and enhancing investment opportunities between the two regions. Key topics included the potential expansion of the Tren Maya project into Belize, improving port connectivity, and maximizing the strategic role of the Corozal and Chetumal Free Zones.
A major outcome of the meeting was the agreement to establish working groups to address customs facilitation, trade logistics, and investment opportunities. Both parties also committed to streamlining border trade processes and strengthening business-to-business linkages through trade missions.
This meeting builds on an MOU signed three years ago, aimed at boosting private sector investment and economic integration. Minister Martinez reaffirmed Belize’s commitment to deepening trade relations with Mexico while positioning Belize as a gateway to the CARICOM market.
A follow-up meeting between Belizean and Mexican border authorities has been proposed to address logistical challenges and enhance cross-border trade.
