Football Federation of Belize postpones PLB match over security concerns

Police: Gang conflict ends in fatal shooting of Brandon Baptist at football game

By Belize Live News Staff: Following the tragic shooting at Marion Jones Sports Complex, the Football Federation of Belize (FFB) has announced the postponement of the scheduled PLB match between Port Layola FC and Progresso FC, originally set for Sunday, February 2, 2025. The decision, made out of an abundance of caution, aims to ensure the safety of players, fans, and officials.

The FFB stated that the postponement comes after careful consideration of security risks, given the violent incident that occurred at the stadium during a previous match. The federation emphasized that it remains committed to providing a safe environment for all football activities in Belize.

Additionally, the FFB has pledged to work closely with all clubs to ensure proper security measures are in place before resuming play. While the decision is regrettable, officials believe it is necessary to safeguard everyone involved in the sport.

The FFB has assured fans that further updates on rescheduling and security improvements will be provided soon. Football enthusiasts are encouraged to remain patient as the federation prioritizes safety and well-being in all future matches.
