One dead, three injured in Belize City shooting

Police: Gang conflict ends in fatal shooting of Brandon Baptist at football game

By Belize Live News Staff: A violent shooting in Belize City has left one man dead and three others injured, prompting a full-scale police investigation.

Authorities responded to reports of gunfire at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) at around 9:15 p.m. on Friday, January 31, 2025. Upon arrival, police found four men suffering from gunshot wounds:

Brandon Augustus Baptist, 39 – later pronounced dead at KHMH

John Grinage, 37 – remains hospitalized in serious condition

Cameron Williams, 21 – treated and released

Herson Mena, 26 – remains hospitalized and under medical care

Witnesses reported chaos and panic as the gunfire erupted, but details on the motive and potential suspects remain unclear. Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage and collecting statements from individuals who were at the scene before the shooting.

No arrests have been made, and police continue to appeal for witnesses to provide leads in what appears to be a targeted attack.
