By Belize Live News Staff: Former KHMH Finance Director Carlos Perrera has returned to the political scene as the UDP’s Shadow Minister for Health, delivering a scathing critique of the PUP government’s handling of the healthcare system.
During a press conference on Tuesday, Perrera pointed to several shortcomings in public health, including abandoned projects, shortages of equipment and medicine, and ongoing complaints of neglect at national hospitals. He highlighted the closure of the Placencia Polyclinic, concerns at the Northern Regional Hospital and Corozal Community Hospital, and allegations of patient neglect at KHMH in recent years.
“The continuous chaos includes a shortage of medicine and equipment, stalled pharmaceutical supplies, and a healthcare system failing to address pension and salary issues for hospital staff,” Perrera said.
His appointment as Shadow Minister marks a political comeback, as he previously faced scrutiny for his tenure at KHMH over a decade ago. Now, he presents himself as a key figure in the UDP’s push to overhaul healthcare policies.
