By Belize Live News Staff: The National Hydrological Service of Belize issued a flood update today, forecasting below-normal river levels in most regions of the country. The Macal River, a significant waterway passing through San Ignacio, is expected to remain below the low-level bridge.
Reservoir levels at all Fortis facilities on the Macal River are also anticipated to stay below the spillway. The Belize River, another major river system, is expected to see continued below-normal levels at Double Run, with Crooked Tree Lagoon levels also remaining low.
The hydrological service also reported below-normal levels in several other rivers, including the Rio Hondo, New River, Mopan River, Sibun River, Deep River, Rio Grande, Moho River, and Temash River. However, some areas, such as the Eastern Slopes of the Mayan Mountains and the Sittee River, are expected to see water levels rise to near-normal levels.
The Southern Lagoon at Gales Point Village is expected to maintain above-normal levels. In contrast, the Sarstoon River in Region 13 is expected to see continued normal levels.
The next update from the National Hydrological Service is scheduled for Monday, June 17, 2024.
