By Belize Live News Staff: The National Assembly of Belize has made history by appointing Mrs. Clarita Pech as the new Clerk of the National Assembly, effective January 2, 2025. Mrs. Pech, a seasoned public sector leader, becomes the first woman to hold this prestigious role in the country.
Mrs. Pech served as Acting Clerk since July 1, 2024, during which she demonstrated exceptional leadership and administrative skills. She was instrumental in managing the day-to-day operations of the National Assembly while fulfilling her responsibilities as Accounting Officer for the offices of the Contractor General, the Ombudsman, and the Integrity Commission.
With a robust background in parliamentary and public sector management, Mrs. Pech’s appointment is expected to strengthen the operations and governance of the Assembly. Her leadership will also support the democratic processes that underpin Belize’s legislative framework.
Upon her official appointment, Mrs. Pech expressed her gratitude and commitment to the role. “One of my primary focuses will be supporting the initiatives of parliament to increase awareness of its role and functions, ensuring continuity of professional services, and providing expertise and advice to parliament, its members, and staff across various parliaments,” she stated.
The National Assembly has pledged its full support for Mrs. Pech in her new role and looks forward to her continued contributions to advancing its work and strengthening Belize’s parliamentary institutions.
