Motorist threatened at gunpoint on Hummingbird Highway near Dangriga

By Belize Live News Staff: A routine drive turned alarming for Belmopan resident Brian Requeña, 43, after he reported being threatened at gunpoint by the driver of a Dodge Ram pickup along the Hummingbird Highway on Monday afternoon.

Requeña recounted that around 3:00 PM, while heading to Mango Creek Village, he attempted to overtake the Dodge Ram near the Pomona Police Station. Despite signaling properly, the truck’s driver allegedly swerved into his lane, forcing Requeña to fall back.

A second overtaking attempt near Hope Creek Village resulted in a similar reaction from the truck’s driver. Concerned by the repeated dangerous behavior, Requeña stopped his cream-colored Ford Escape and approached the other driver to ask, “What happened?”

The encounter took a frightening turn when the truck driver, described as a slim-built Asian male in a black t-shirt and blue shorts, allegedly stepped out of his vehicle, brandished a black handgun, and pointed it at Requeña. Fearing for his life, Requeña quickly retreated as the armed individual drove off toward Dangriga.

Police later detained the suspect and confiscated a Glock 19 pistol as evidence. Requeña has filed a formal complaint, requesting legal action against the driver. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
