By Belize Live News Staff: A motorcyclist and his passenger are lucky to be alive after a harrowing encounter with a speeding taxi on the Philip Goldson Highway. The duo, though shaken, escaped without major injuries in an incident that highlights growing concerns about reckless driving and the safety of motorcyclists on Belizean roads.
According to the riders, they were traveling northbound when a taxi, attempting to overtake them at high speed, grazed their motorcycle. The impact caused the riders to lose their balance momentarily but miraculously avoid falling.
The ordeal didn’t end there. The taxi driver reportedly stopped abruptly in their path, leaving them no time to avoid a collision. The motorcycle crashed into the rear of the vehicle, though the riders were fortunate to escape with minor injuries.
Authorities have yet to confirm whether charges will be brought against the taxi driver or if additional measures will be taken to address inappropriate driving behavior on highways. For now, the riders are counting their blessings as they recover from what could have been a far more tragic outcome.
