By Belize Live News: On a night meant for celebration and family, tragedy struck in the Lakeland area of Dangriga when 23-year-old James Aranda lost his life to gun violence.
Police reports indicate that at around 9:20 p.m., officers responded to the Southern Regional Hospital following reports of a man with gunshot injuries. Aranda, a Belizean laborer from Rivas Estate, was found with two gunshot wounds to his head. Despite the best efforts of medical personnel, he was pronounced dead at 9:25 p.m.
Witnesses reveal that just moments earlier, Aranda was walking on Sabal Street when two men on a motorcycle approached him. Dressed in dark clothing, the suspects fired multiple shots, fatally striking him in the head before fleeing the scene.
Police recovered five shell casings and a slug at the scene, and investigations are ongoing to locate the suspects.
