Burglary at Belize resort turns fatal as suspect falls to death

By Belize Live News Staff: Authorities are investigating a fatal burglary at a resort on Tobacco Caye where a suspected intruder died following an altercation with tourists early Wednesday.

Police in Dangriga were alerted around 3:00 a.m. by the resort’s operations manager after workers found an unresponsive man lying face down below Cabana #1. Attempts to revive him were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Preliminary investigations revealed the incident began between 2:15 a.m. and 2:30 a.m., when two tourists staying in Cabana #1 were awakened by noises. They reported encountering a man rummaging through their belongings. A struggle ensued, during which the intruder was reportedly thrown from the cabana’s balcony, which overlooks the sea.

Authorities identified the deceased as a 22-year-old resident of Dangriga. Investigators are examining the events leading to his death and whether charges will be brought against the tourists.
