By Belize Live News Staff: A daylight robbery shook the village of Silk Grass on Wednesday as two masked men stormed Merry Store, making off with an undisclosed amount of cash. The brazen heist, which unfolded in front of terrified staff and even the store owner’s child, was captured on CCTV.
The robbers, armed with a handgun, burst into the store shortly after midday. One suspect held the cashier at gunpoint while his accomplice emptied the cash register. The entire ordeal lasted approximately two minutes, with the perpetrators grabbing every valuable within reach before fleeing the scene in a waiting vehicle.
However, their escape was short-lived. Police responded swiftly, intercepting the getaway car and apprehending both suspects, who are believed to be from Belize City. A quantity of stolen money was recovered. Interestingly, one of the suspects is reportedly a notorious figure from the Belize City underworld, known for his criminal activities in the 1990s. The driver of the getaway vehicle, a resident of the Independence Village area, was also detained.
Police are continuing their investigations.
