By Belize Live News Staff: Police are investigating the murder of an 18-year-old man who was fatally shot outside a restaurant in Roaring Creek on Wednesday night following a dispute.
Jonathan Josue Leonardo, from the Duck Run 2 area in the Cayo District, was killed at approximately 10:45 p.m. outside Divinas Restaurant and Bar, located along the George Price Highway.
According to police reports, Leonardo had been involved in an argument with another individual inside the bar. To avoid further conflict, he left the establishment and got into his vehicle with two friends.
The suspect reportedly followed Leonardo outside and approached his vehicle as he reversed to leave. Witnesses say the suspect fired a single shot through the driver’s side window, fatally wounding Leonardo.
Police recovered one expended 9mm shell at the scene. Investigators have identified a suspect from the Maya Mopan area who owns a licensed firearm, though no arrests have yet been made.
The investigation is ongoing.
