Former Belize Prime Ministers appeal for aid to Cuba after hurricanes and earthquakes

By Belize Live News Staff: In the wake of devastating natural disasters in Cuba, former Prime Ministers of Belize have issued an urgent appeal for humanitarian aid. Hurricanes Oscar and Rafael, along with recent earthquakes, have left widespread destruction, particularly in Guantánamo, Havana, and other affected areas. These disasters have severely impacted Cuba’s electrical grid, health facilities, homes, and agriculture.

The appeal emphasizes the role of the U.S. blockade in exacerbating the challenges faced by the Cuban people, making recovery efforts even more difficult. In a letter addressed to the public, the former leaders highlighted Cuba’s long-standing support for Belize, including training Belizean doctors and providing medical aid during the COVID-19 pandemic.

To assist, Belizeans are encouraged to donate cash or essential items such as solar panels, medical supplies, food, and construction materials. Donations can be made via the following bank accounts:

Atlantic Bank
Account Number: 211-005-6145

Heritage Bank
Account Number: 911-2059

Material donations can be delivered to Mel’s Chiropractic Healing and Therapy, located at the corner of Hopkins and 1st Street, King’s Park, Belize City. The center can be reached at 607-9051 during business hours, Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The appeal calls for solidarity with Cuba, urging media and social influencers to help spread the message. “Every contribution, no matter the size, will help alleviate the suffering of a heroic and generous people,” the letter concludes.
