Belize basking in sunshine, but tropical trouble brewing

By Belize Live  News Staff: Belizeans woke up to sunny skies and warm temperatures this Sunday, but forecasters are keeping a close eye on two developing systems in the Atlantic. Subtropical Storm Patty formed east of the Azores, packing 50 mph winds as it moves eastward. Closer to home, a disturbance in the southwestern Caribbean Sea has a high chance of developing into a tropical storm in the next 48 hours.

“This system bears watching,” said forecaster Crystal Rosalez of the Belize National Meteorological Service. “It could bring rain and thunderstorms to Belize as early as Monday.”

For now, residents and tourists can enjoy a picture-perfect weekend. Coastal areas can expect highs in the mid-80s Fahrenheit, with inland temperatures climbing even higher. A few isolated showers are possible, mainly in the south.

This potential tropical storm comes on the heels of a relatively dry period for Belize. Seas are currently moderate, with waves reaching 4-6 feet – perfect conditions for boaters, though caution is always advised.

The National Meteorological Service will continue to monitor both systems and provide updates. Residents are encouraged to stay informed and be prepared for potential changes in the forecast.
