UDP condemns “Criminal Takeover” of headquarters by Alliance for Democracy Party

By Belize Live News Staff: The United Democratic Party (UDP) has issued a public condemnation of what it describes as a “criminal takeover” of its headquarters by members of the Alliance for Democracy Party (ADP), led by Tracy Panton and John Saldivar. The UDP claims that this takeover was conducted without legal authority and with blatant disregard for democratic processes, capturing the actions on live television.

In their statement, UDP officials highlight concerns over the ADP’s approach, which they argue shows “a frightening disregard for the rule of law” and creates a volatile environment with a potential for violence. UDP officials accuse the Alliance leaders of pursuing power through “criminal or violent” means, referencing the absence of a necessary court order for the ADP’s actions.

The UDP has expressed disappointment in the Commissioner of Police for failing to prevent this incident, despite prior police reports and video evidence of the alleged unlawful entry. Standing firmly on a commitment to lawful resolution, the UDP confirms it has enlisted legal counsel to address the situation through the court system, reaffirming its confidence in the judiciary’s role in maintaining peace and order.

The UDP assures its supporters of continued adherence to democratic principles and vows to uphold standards of conduct in contrast to what they describe as “political gangsterism” by the ADP. The party calls upon Belizeans who value democracy to stand with them against what they see as actions characteristic of a “criminal enterprise rather than a legitimate political entity.”
