PUP chairman downplays concerns over Shyne Barrow’s visit to Chinese Embassy

UDP distances itself from Alliance for Democracy’s Unity Convention

By Belize Live News Staff:The People’s United Party (PUP) Chairman, Minister Henry Charles Usher, has dismissed concerns over Opposition Leader Shyne Barrow’s recent visit to the Chinese Embassy in Jamaica, stating that the visit does not represent the government’s position.

Minister Usher clarified that Belize maintains a strong relationship with Taiwan, a partner of 35 years, and emphasized that the government stands by a recent House resolution promoting ties with Taiwan. Barrow’s visit to the Chinese Embassy has sparked debate within the United Democratic Party (UDP), which will need to address the issue internally, Usher said.

“He does not speak for the government or the people of Belize,” Usher added, indicating that the matter is solely a UDP concern.
