Belize City woman survives shooting to the neck

By Belize Live News Staff: A Belize City woman is fortunate to be alive after surviving a gunshot wound to the neck on Tuesday night. The incident occurred around 8:45 p.m. on Santa Barbara Street in the Martin’s area of Belize City.

The victim, identified as 48-year-old Mary Flowers, was leaving the home of Kirk Smith when a gunman, lying in wait, opened fire. Two shots were fired, with one striking Flowers in the neck. She collapsed on Smith’s veranda and was quickly rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) for urgent medical treatment.

Police reported that another bullet damaged the window of a neighboring house, but fortunately, no other injuries were reported. Despite the severity of the incident, area residents and surveillance cameras in the vicinity have provided no useful leads to assist investigators.

Flowers is currently in stable condition as she recovers from her injuries. The police continue to search for the shooter, and anyone with information is encouraged to come forward.
