Caribbean Court of Justice rejects final appeal of convicted murderer Tevin Andrewin

By Belize Live News Staff: Tevin Andrewin, the convicted murderer of 28-year-old Myrick Gladden, has lost his final appeal. The Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) rejected Andrewin’s application for leave to appeal, marking the end of his legal attempts to overturn his conviction.

Andrewin, now 32, was found guilty in 2019 of the 2012 fatal shooting of Gladden on Complex Street, Belize City. Gladden had been walking with his common-law wife, Shianna Allen, and her brother when the tragic incident occurred. According to Allen, who served as the key witness for the Crown, Andrewin approached and began firing at Gladden. Allen testified that she ran for cover after hearing gunshots, but saw Andrewin standing over Gladden, continuing to shoot.

Gladden was hit multiple times—three times in the back, once in the liver, and once in the chest. Before he succumbed to his injuries, Gladden made a dying declaration to police, identifying Andrewin as the shooter. This declaration was a pivotal piece of evidence during the trial.

In May 2019, Andrewin was sentenced to life imprisonment with the possibility of parole after 25 years. Now that his final appeal has been dismissed, Andrewin has no further legal recourse to challenge his conviction.

The rejection of Andrewin’s appeal by the CCJ means that he has officially exhausted all his appeals, and the life sentence handed down in 2019 remains intact.
