US reaffirms support for Haiti security mission as Belize extends troop deployment

By Belize Live News Staff: The United States reaffirmed its commitment to the multinational security mission in Haiti, with Belize contributing troops to the ongoing effort. Two Belizean soldiers are currently stationed as part of the UN-backed contingent, and the US recently extended the mission for an additional 12 months.

Brian Nichols, the US Assistant Secretary of State, praised the efforts of international partners in stabilizing Haiti. “We’ve seen substantial progress, particularly around the reconstitution of a Provisional Electoral Council, which will pave the way for elections next year,” Nichols said. He also highlighted the continued challenges in the region but underscored the importance of Belize’s participation in the broader security initiative.
