Ramon Vasquez shifts allegiance? Former UDP candidate appears at PUP Orange Walk rally

By Belize Live News Staff: Just weeks after declining the United Democratic Party’s (UDP) standard bearer position for Belize Rural South, broadcaster Ramon Vasquez made a surprising appearance at the People’s United Party’s (PUP) Orange Walk rally on Saturday night.

Vasquez’s presence at the rally, supporting PUP Leader John Briceño and the Orange Walk standard bearers, has fueled speculation about his political allegiance.

In a statement, Vasquez emphasized his commitment to serving the people and his vision for a united government. He highlighted his Christian values and desire to help people from all walks of life, stating that a “house divided shall fall.”

His words seem to allude to the ongoing internal strife within the UDP, which has recently seen multiple petitions aimed at removing Moses “Shyne” Barrow as party leader and the resignations of several high-ranking members.

While Vasquez previously cited the need to maintain neutrality in his role at Belize Broadcasting Network TV as the reason for declining the UDP candidacy, he expressed his continued desire to contribute to national development. He envisions a future with improved customer service and technological advancements.

Though his exact role in the PUP remains unclear, the party will likely welcome his support as they gear up for the next general election.
