Belize upholds human rights and self-determination at UN conference

By Belize Live News Staff: Belize’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Carlos Fuller, reaffirmed the nation’s commitment to human rights and territorial integrity during a conference on self-determination for the island of Bonaire. Speaking at the event, organized by the Baku Initiative Group and the Bonaire Movement for Human Rights and Change, Fuller emphasized Belize’s dedication to protecting human rights as a core principle of its foreign policy.

He highlighted Belize’s own journey towards self-determination, stating, “After decades of struggle, we have achieved representation at the UN.” Fuller stressed that supporting cultural development, political and economic progress, combating abuses, and fostering self-governance are crucial aspirations for nations that have endured colonialism.

Fuller expressed solidarity with the people of Bonaire, asserting that their concerns deserve attention and commending their active engagement with UN officials. He extended his gratitude to the Azerbaijani government and the Baku Initiative Group for facilitating a platform to amplify the voices of Bonaire’s people.
