By Belize Live News Staff: Belize’s win at the Wanderlust Reader Travel Awards comes at a perfect time for the country’s tourism industry.
Belize took Gold as Most Desirable Emerging Destination at the 25th annual awards in London, voted on by about 250,000 travellers who cast 5.5 million votes in total. The ceremony, held at The National Gallery, featured a keynote address by Prince Harry.
The award is a strong signal to European travellers, a market Belize has been working hard to grow.
Just last week, Discover Airlines, part of the Lufthansa Group, confirmed twice weekly flights from Frankfurt to Belize City starting in December 2027, with tickets going on sale December 21, 2026. Director of Tourism Evan Tillett has described the lack of European air access as the “Achilles’ heel” for growth from Europe.
The recognition also comes as the BTB expects a robust high season after four months of softer arrivals, with new nonstop service from Fort Lauderdale on BermudAir and more US routes coming in December.
From the Belize Barrier Reef and offshore atolls to rainforests, ancient Maya sites and vibrant cultures, Belize offers a mix of adventure and authenticity that is winning over travellers around the world.
The BTB thanked all the Wanderlust readers who voted for Belize, saying more people than ever are discovering the country’s gem.
