By Belize Live News Staff: Orange Walk police have charged a Palmar Village man following a search on Santa Barbara Street in the early hours of Saturday.

Police say officers on patrol around 3:00am on October 31 approached two men sitting on a parked motorcycle by the roadside. The passenger, later identified as 43 year old Henry Torres, was asked to step off the bike for a search.

Asked whether he had anything illegal to declare, Torres said no. Police say a search of his right front pocket uncovered a small Ziploc bag containing white powder suspected to be cocaine.

He was informed of the offence, cautioned and taken to the Orange Walk Police Station. There, the substance was weighed at 0.14 grams and sealed in an evidence envelope, which Torres signed.

He was formally arrested and charged later that day with possession of a controlled drug.

The arrest was one of several drug cases handled by Orange Walk police on Saturday, including two charges for possession of drug smoking utensils and the discovery of 3.88 grams of suspected cocaine on Staines Alley.
