By Belize Live News Staff: Belizean creative Chellsea Elle Peña has built an international career in photography and event production, and now she hopes to use her story to help others back home.
In a recent interview, Peña spoke openly about building her career while living with bipolar disorder. She said balancing her mental health with entrepreneurship and creativity has not always been easy, but it has shaped how she sees the world and deepened her empathy for others.
For Peña, resilience is not about having everything figured out, but about continuing to grow without letting challenges set your limits. She finds inspiration in artists like Nina Simone and Jean Michel Basquiat, whose creative legacies continue to influence the world.
One of her biggest goals is to establish a mental health foundation in Belize. She noted that mental health remains a difficult conversation in many Caribbean homes, where stigma and fear of judgment often stop people from getting help.
She wants to create a space where people feel understood and supported, and where they know that struggling with mental health does not make anyone weak or less capable of achieving their dreams.
Through her company Pena Productions and her work with Clarks and Smurf ENT, Peña has helped bring Caribbean talent to wider audiences. Her work has been featured in publications including Vogue, NYLON and The FADER.
She describes herself as proud to be a Caribbean woman and immigrant who built her way into the industry through a love for art and music, continuing a legacy she was introduced to as a child while helping open doors for the next generation of creatives.
