By Belize Live News Staff: The Human Services Department is expected to follow up on a case involving a 13 year old boy who reported being struck with a belt at home.
The boy told Orange Walk police he was disciplined with a belt after his stepfather learned that a younger sibling had been seen with boys the teen knew. He said he was hit on the hand and back.
Afterward, he said, he was sent away from the home with his clothes, important documents and money for bus fare. He eventually reached his father’s home.
His father brought him to the police station, where statements were recorded. The father did not request court action.
The boy has been placed in his father’s care, and both parents have been asked to meet with Human Services on Monday.
If you know a child who may be at risk, contact the police or the Human Services Department for help.
