By Belize Live News Staff: The driver of a parked cement truck says he was resting in his cab when a pickup slammed into his trailer on Thursday night, in a crash that claimed the life of a Yo Creek man.
According to police, the 67 year old truck driver from Corozal Town had parked his tandem truck off the Philip Goldson Highway in front of the Shell station near Mile 52 around 6:00pm. He was waiting to deliver a load of cement.
Around 8:00pm, he felt a hard knock from behind that shook the truck. When he stepped out, he saw that a red Lincoln pickup had crashed into the rear of his trailer.
The pickup’s driver, a 36 year old manager of Yo Creek Village, was trapped inside. Firefighters freed him, but he was later certified dead at the Northern Regional Hospital morgue.
The trailer suffered damage to its right rear, including a broken light and damaged wheel. The front of the pickup was extensively damaged.
Police say no Notice of Intended Prosecution was issued to the truck driver. The vehicles are yet to be inspected, and the matter remains under investigation.
BLN extends condolences to the family.
