Masked gunmen hold up store, steal cash and liquor

By Belize Live News Staff: A young man walking up to an Orange Walk shop on Thursday night found himself face to face with an armed gang.

The 23 year old told police that as he arrived at the store on Palmar Road around 9:07pm, he saw several masked men in black long sleeve shirts and three quarter jeans coming out.

Two of them were carrying what looked like firearms. Others carried black plastic bags filled with goods, and one appeared to be carrying a box shaped machine.

The men climbed into a white Chevrolet Equinox with no licence plate. One of them threatened to shoot the witness, who ran toward Palmar Village. The SUV sped off onto Tangerine Street.

Inside, the shopkeeper, who was in shock, told police the men held her at gunpoint for about 15 minutes and took cash, liquor and the store’s DVR.

Police are searching for video footage from the area. The shopkeeper has given a statement but did not request court action.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Orange Walk Police or Crime Stoppers at 922.
