Father charged after 12 year old son found driving motorcycle

charged

By Belize Live News Staff: A Guinea Grass father is in trouble with the law after police found his 12 year old son riding a motorcycle through the village.

Officers stopped the boy on Monday morning as he rode a red Lifan motorcycle on an unnamed street. He had no licence, and when asked his age, told police he was 12.

Police escorted the boy home and informed his father that he would be charged for allowing his son to drive.

At the Orange Walk Police Station, the boy was charged with three traffic offences, including riding without insurance and without a driver’s licence. His father, a 32 year old mechanic, was charged with permitting a person to drive without a permit.

The case is a reminder that children are not legally allowed to operate motor vehicles on public roads. Beyond the legal consequences, underage riders face serious risk of injury or death in a crash.

Police are urging parents to keep motorcycles and vehicles out of the hands of children.

Both father and son are due in court today.
