By Belize Live News Staff: A Guinea Grass mother believes the sound of a police vehicle may have saved her life.
The 22 year old told police that on Sunday afternoon, her intoxicated common law husband attacked her after she stopped him from hurting their six year old daughter.
She said he choked her on the ground until she struggled to breathe, accused her of infidelity and repeatedly threatened to kill her. When she broke free, he allegedly grabbed a machete and pressed it to her neck.
Terrified, she quietly begged him to think about his children and leave her alone.
Moments later, a vehicle pulled up outside. The man dropped the machete and ran out the back door into nearby bushes. It was the Guinea Grass Police.
Officers searched the area but could not find him at the time. The woman made a formal report on Monday and requested court action.
Police have since detained the man pending charges for aggravated assault and threat of death.
