By Belize Live News Staff: Belizeans in communities across the country could experience power interruptions between 6:00 p.m. and 11:59 p.m. tonight as Belize Electricity Limited prepares for possible load shedding.
BEL says high power demand combined with limited supply from local sources and Mexico’s CFE has prompted the company to issue a tentative load shedding schedule.
From 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., possible interruptions could affect the West Feeder 1, Ladyville Feeder 1 Zones 1 and 2, San Ignacio Feeder 2, Dangriga Feeder 3, Independence Feeder 2 and Belize Feeder 2.
This includes communities along portions of the George Price Highway, Ladyville, San Ignacio and surrounding areas, Hopkins, Sittee River, Maya Center, Silk Grass, Kendall, Riversdale, parts of the Placencia Peninsula and sections of Belize City.
Between 9:00 p.m. and 11:59 p.m., BEL says possible interruptions could affect Corozal Feeder 1, San Ignacio Feeder 3, Dangriga Feeder 2 and Punta Gorda Feeder 2.
Among the areas listed for the later period are San Antonio and parts of Corozal Town, Bullet Tree, Santa Familia, Paslow Falls, Hope Creek, Pomona, Middlesex, Big Falls, San Marcos, Laguna, Yemeri Grove, San Pedro Columbia, Blue Creek, Barranco and other southern communities.
BEL emphasized that these are possible interruptions, not guaranteed outages. The schedule could change depending on electricity demand and available generation.
Customers in affected areas should charge phones and essential devices and make preparations ahead of the possible interruptions.
