By Belize Live News Staff: A 24 year old labourer of Savannah Street, Orange Walk Town, has been charged with three traffic offences following a stop in the early hours of Saturday.
He is Dathan Raasaun Smith.
Police say officers on patrol on Naranjal Street around 1:00am on October 24 stopped a black Lifan motorcycle carrying two men toward Riverside Street.
When asked for his driver’s licence, Smith said it was at home along with the motorcycle’s licence. Officers noticed the bike’s RF&G insurance disc had expired on September 4.
Police escorted him home, where they found that both his driver’s licence, which expired in September 2025, and the motorcycle licence were out of date.
Smith was charged with driving an unlicensed motor vehicle, driving without third party risk insurance and driving without a valid Belize driver’s licence.
He was granted police bail of $800.
Police are reminding motorists and riders to keep their licences and insurance current.
