By Belize Live News Staff: A family drive into San Lazaro Village on Sunday evening turned violent in a matter of seconds.
A 26 year old oil technician was heading into the village around 5:30pm with his common law wife and his son in the vehicle.
He noticed a man on the right side of the road holding a white metal pipe, about three feet long, in both hands.
As the Ford Ranger passed, the man stepped in and brought the pipe down on the windshield.
The driver told police it happened so fast that all he registered was a bang and then glass hitting him across his body. His partner and his son took it too.
He drove another 15 metres, parked and got out looking for the man. He was already gone.
Scenes of Crime photographed the vehicle. A mechanic later put the damage at $520.
Guadalupe Garcia, 40, a construction worker of San Lazaro Village, was detained that evening. Police say he was behaving aggressively and appeared to be under the influence, and was held overnight.
He was charged with damage to property on Monday and chose to remain silent.
A child was in that vehicle.
