By Belize Live News Staff: Two men reportedly escaped from police on a motorcycle Sunday night, leaving behind a knapsack containing more than two kilograms of suspected cannabis.
The incident unfolded at approximately 9:30 p.m. on September 6 while officers attached to the Mobile Interdiction Unit were patrolling Trial Farm Village.
According to the police report, officers were passing a park located beside the river when they noticed two men standing near a motorcycle.
As the marked police vehicle approached, one of the men allegedly attempted to pick up a black knapsack lying in a nearby bushy area.
He was unable to retrieve the bag, and both men reportedly fled the area on the motorcycle.
Police recovered the abandoned knapsack and discovered two plastic wrapped parcels containing what appeared to be cannabis.
The suspected drugs were transported to the Orange Walk Police Station, where the parcels were weighed.
The first parcel weighed 1,052 grams and the second weighed 1,040 grams, for a total of 2,092 grams of suspected cannabis.
The parcels were labelled as found property.
The police report did not indicate that either of the two men had been identified or arrested.
