By Belize Live News Staff: The Belize Fisheries Department has announced that MAD’s Seafood Export is currently the only company licensed to legally purchase and export sea cucumbers as the 2026 to 2027 fishing season gets underway.
According to the Department, MAD’s Seafood Export is based in Independence Village in the Stann Creek District, while authorized buyers will also be stationed in Belize City.
The company will officially begin purchasing sea cucumbers on September 9, 2026.
Fishers and stakeholders are being reminded that sea cucumbers must only be sold to an approved and licensed buyer. Buying, selling or exporting the product through unauthorized entities remains prohibited under the Fisheries Resources Act and applicable regulations.
The Fisheries Department noted that MAD’s Seafood Export is the sole authorized buyer at this initial stage of the season, but additional applications are currently under review.
If other companies receive approval, the Department says it will issue another public notice informing fishers and stakeholders of the additional licensed buyers.
Those seeking information regarding purchases can contact MAD’s Seafood Export at 610 0664.
