By Belize Live News Staff: A police operation at a Belize City residence turned physical after officers attempted to detain a man during a search.
Police say a team of officers went to a home on Oleander Street on Thursday afternoon to search the premises for illegal firearms, ammunition and drugs.
During the operation, officers identified a man who was reportedly wanted for questioning in a separate investigation.
As police attempted to escort him from the property, an officer was allegedly blocked by a woman standing between him and the detainee.
The situation then escalated.
Police allege that a man approached one officer from behind and punched him in the back of the head.
When another officer stepped in to assist, a woman allegedly grabbed him from behind and choked him.
Three people were subsequently detained as police investigate the alleged assaults and obstruction.
No information on formal charges was included in the initial report.
