By Belize Live News Staff: A dispute over fruit taken from a private yard has ended with a 68-year-old man in police custody.
A Steadfast Village resident told police he first noticed something was wrong late on August 28 when his dog began barking.
Looking outside, he said he saw a man inside his property taking a large soursop from a tree.
The complainant said he recognised the man because he had known him for about 40 years.
Then, on September 3, the same man was allegedly seen leaving the property with a bunch of plantains.
The homeowner confronted him and asked that the plantains be returned.
Police were told that the man claimed he had received permission from the homeowner’s daughter, while the complainant insisted no one had been authorised to take fruit from the yard.
The soursop and plantains were valued at a combined $60.
The homeowner requested court action.
A 68-year-old man was later detained pending charges.
