Audit completed at Louisiana Government School over missing funds

By Belize Live News Staff: The Ministry of Education has completed an audit at Louisiana Government School following reports that large sums of money went unaccounted for.

Reports put the figure in the range of $100,000, allegedly occurring over several years.

Minister of Education Francis Fonseca said he was briefed by the Chief Education Officer and the General Manager that the audit had been finished.

“They were going to have meetings with a number of, the principal and a number of other people, a number, bursar, I don’t remember exactly, but I think that bursar was there, a number of people who were in finance there,” Fonseca said.

He said he had not yet received feedback on whether those meetings had taken place.

“I know they’re following up on the audit to make sure that, you know, if there are any misappropriation that took place, that they would make sure that those who were involved would be held responsible.”

No findings have been made public and no one has been named or charged.
